Petition for new elections in the United Kingdom: already 3 million signatories

The British Labour government, under the leadership of Keir Starmer, elected only four months ago, is already facing an unprecedented crisis of legitimacy. Indeed, a petition is underway in the United Kingdom and has reached 2,944,704 signatories, and the numbers continue to rise. The subject of the petition is the request for new elections in the United Kingdom.

I would like there to be another General Election.

I believe the current Labour Government have gone back on the promises they laid out in the lead up to the last election.

The government must respond to all petitions that collect more than 10,000 signatures. Therefore, the English Parliament will have to debate the petition on January 6, 2025. At the current rate, it will easily reach 5 million signatories and maybe even 10 million. This is unprecedented in England: political discredit in such a short time.

The reasons for such a political disavowal

Many reasons are given to explain this brutal disavowal of the Labour Party:

  • The United Kingdom is predominantly right-wing. The Labour Party came to power only because the Conservatives were challenged by a new party and the single-past-the-post system that favors the candidate who comes out on top,
  • The Labour government has done the opposite of what it promised during the election campaign,
  • Poverty continues to spread in the United Kingdom,
  • Immigration and the insecurity it generates daily,
  • The war in Ukraine,
  • The blind repression of British protesters described as racist and far-right during the riots in the summer of 2024 in the United Kingdom is similar to what the yellow vest movement suffered in France.

Oddly enough, no media outlet covers this petition, which is crucial for the future of the United Kingdom.
